"Our priority is to create for the holiday rentals business, the space it deserves" Over the past decade, holiday rentals have thoroughly influenced the evolution of the tourism and real estate sectors. Mauritius is part of the trend. Indeed, according to an Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) by Ernst & Young, at the end of 2019 the destination had over 5,000 rental units on offer, of which only about 10% were duly registered with the authorities (via the Tourism Authority). This segment had a growth in income of over 200% between 2017 and 2019, to reach Rs. 8+ billion in revenues, creating approximately11,000 jobs locally. The demand for this type of accommodation has never been so high and all indicators point to its strong recovery as the tourist world revives. This demonstrates the potential contribution of this segment to the Mauritian economy and the tourism sector. AALSIM's mission is to enable this industry to achieve its potential. Since the association’s foundation in 2018, we have established very good relationships with the authorities. The amount of units proposed or managed by the ensemble of our members is equivalent to approximately 50% of the total units registered at the Tourism Authority. For 2021 we want to be even more representative of the industry and address regulatory and promotion issues. We are also available to institutions for discussions and work around the tourism sector as a whole.
